Geoff Nelder's Book signings

The announcement in a newspaper blog by journalist, Les Floyd.

"Next Saturday, the 24th, is a very important day. My author friend, Geoff Nelder, is doing a book signing at Bookends in Carlisle. I'm submitting an article for thepaper, this morning, since his novel - Escaping Reality - is based, for a large part, in Maryport, and there's also a brief stop-over in a garden shed in Carlisle."

I had a book signing in Carlisle's Bookends bookshop on Saturday 24th September 2005. A harem of young mums advanced on me; I thought this is IT!!. But they brushed me aside to get copies of Spot the Dog for their kids.

Bookends in Carlisle

One really big bloke (he had to breathe OUT to sufficiently deflate his lungs so as to squeeze in the door) got quite excited over the book.
"So a lot of it is local?"
"That's right."
"Crime?"
"Crime, humour and a thriller."
"Are there names of criminals in it?"
"The criminal characters have names, yes. Why?"
"I might be in it, then."
"Really, what's your name? Mr err?"
"Steven blah blah."
"No, I haven't a character called Steven in this book. I have in a science fiction I've written..."
"Oh, it's not true life crime then."
"Ah, you want the non-fiction section downstairs, sorry Steven."

I'm still wondering what his crime was. Maybe blocking out the light in Northern Cumbria. I tried to interest him again on his way back,
and he did take a free bookmark. :)

Thrilling stuff from writer Geoff

AN ex-school teacher from Chester has broken into the world of publishing with his first novel.

Escaping Reality by Geoff Nelder is described as a “hot, humorous thriller” and is about an orchestral musician on the run after being falsely accused of killing a jeweller.

Hero Gerald Ricketts has to escape a high security prison, survives a winter hike across the Northumberland moors and then gets involved with the criminal underworld and has to break the law to prove his innocence.

Geoff, of Lache Hall Crescent, taught geography and ICT at Queen’s Park High School for 26 years and is married with two grown-up children.

As head of IT at the school Geoff wrote an information pack for A-level students on the he workings of the Police National Computer Database, an experience which helped the writing of the book.

Cheshire Constabulary also allowed him to spend time in cells and to investigate fingerprinting technology, weapons, procedure, security systems and patrolling.

Geoff has had short stories accepted for publication and won a commendation for a story in the Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future competition.

Geoff will be signing copies of Escaping Reality at Booklands, Bridge Street, on Saturday, October 15 2005 from 11am.

Also, as part of the Chester Literary Festival, Geoff Nelder will be part of the Chester Writers’ Group reading work at The Falcon, Grosvenor Street, on Thursday, October 20, from 8pm.

The book, published by Brambling Books, costs £7.99.

It is available at www.bramblingbooks.com and also amazon.com.
