after an hour of grid searching this bilberry and loose rock slope I found loose remains of the aircraft. Crashed on 14th April 1941, it was a German Heinkel bomber on a return from a raid at Barrow in Furness. Anti aricraft fire destroyed their compass and radio. On crashing at night into the mountainside, the engineer was killed but two surviving crewmembers became POWs, and have had re-unions with local rescuers at the scene. |
